How to Make Your Kid to Beg for More Kindle Books

You can buy your kid a Kindle, but you can't make him to read it. Not that he will not look at it! He or she will start exploring it for a week or so from the date it came to his or her possession. Then you will notice, gradually, there is a lack of interest in his part. After a month or so, on day you will notice, the Kindle you spend 24k on is accumulating dust at some remote corner of his book rack.

Does it sound familiar?

Well, don't be surprised. It's natural. He is simply distracted. He has switched over to the new 'interesting' thing.

You can be worried, frustrated, or plain angry but that's not going to make him read it. Rather your display of such strong emotions may be counter productive.

All you have to do is make the kindle device somewhat irresistible.

How?

Let me give you 3 clues.

1. Buy him a story book he loves

Children love stories. Give them one story book and they would ask for another. Buy him another and he is again ready for  more of it. That's the common sense part, and you probably know that.

But which story books?

That depends upon the age of your child, mostly his mental age. All kids are not equal when it comes to understanding written words. Some show more aptitude in grasping written text whereas some are slow starters. That's natural, so don't be frustrated if your kid is slower than your neighbors' kids. Give him some time and he would pick up. But never mention to him that he is slower than his friends. That would certainly discourage him.

Do you know how kids enjoy their stories most?

When reading stories is a participative family affair, they enjoy it more than reading it alone. When Papa or Mama is listening to their reading, he is the storyteller, even if they read it from a device. He is in command, in control. Let reading popular stories be a family pastime, say after dinner. If both the parents participate, it's even more fun. Do it!

Things are a bit different if your child is already in his / her teens. They don't need parents participation, rather they want more private space when they read. They have already developed independent reading habits. To engage them in a regular reading habits, buy them books that are already produced as movies. You can choose old classics of famous authors too.

2. Convert family photos into kindle books

Kindle books are easy to make. You can collects all the family photos and arrange them into groups. Then turn the groups into chapter and arrange them in chronological order. Arrange text snippets below each photo describing each of them. Mention the occasion, who photographed it, and something memorable about the photo.

Your kids would find such books interesting and go through them when they have time.

3. Sharing his works among friends

Now make your kid participate in the Kindle book creation. Let his learn the process of text formatting, inserting graphics, and adding other style elements into any document.

With these skills, he can convert his school projects, writings such as stories and poems into kindle format. He can distribute his works among his school friends too. Appreciation from classmates and peers is a great motivator for kid, so he would love to do it again and again.

The latest technology nor the most coveted gadgets can keep your child forever interested in it. You want to see that he loves it, but he can't stick to it all his spare time. There is more to him that a Kindle. Sooner you accept it, better your life would be. The only way he is going to interact with it frequently is it should be of great interest you him. Show him how he can use it to beat his boredom and he would beg for  more of it.

Kindles are Here to Stay

Say, you want to buy a Kindle Oasis. And you have to invest ₹ 23,999.00 for the device and some additional amount on kindle e-books too. But before you fill in the Credit Card details, you would naturally want to know how long  this technology is going to last.

We all need technology to stay afloat and it's not cheap. The irony is that this expense is not one time, it's recurring. Technology is changing every second and to stay up-to-date you have to punch a big hole on your purse.

So, the natural question is - How long before the Kindle becomes outdated?

I may be wrong, but not very. I would say this with confidence:

Kindles are not going anywhere. They are just like the invention of the wheel, one of the fundamental problem solvers. I'm happy they are here, and I suppose you should be.

It would not surprise me if you think otherwise. You have your reasons and so many others. But let me give my reasons here. They are only 3.

1. We need information to survive

Information had never been so important for survival. The world around us is changing fast, very fast actually. To keep up with the outer change, we have to learn as fast if not faster. The major chunk of our information comes from books and we have to read a lot of them. So, we need a reading device after all.

Among all the e-readers, Kindle is the most convenient. Its Ink-display technology is one of it's kind that makes it very suitable for all light reading conditions. That can never be achieved by any other device with an LCD display system. It's a breakthrough and it's not going to change, at least not in the near future. It  may get better and better with time, but changing to something new? Nah! doesn't seem possible to me at this point in time.

2. We need a lot of books to read and refer

Well then, reading is very important. But how much? Actually, we are going to need a lot many books. We are going to need a personal library. To stay the expert in our own field of expertise, we have to compete with some real experts in the same field, so we may need may need bigger libraries. :)

The best part of owning a kindle is its library. Once we buy some books, they are ours forever. You can access them from anywhere, but you need your kindle. So, you see, Kindle is here to stay.

3. The human habit abhors change

The is the most important point in my argument. We all love habits. That makes our life so much easy. Once we acquire one, it makes our life automatic in completing that task. So easy. Once we want to do something new it becomes so stressful, because we have to focus on a lot of energy till it becomes a habit again. Difficult!

So, the Kindle habit we acquire is not going to allow us to break away from it. We are not going to allow our kindles to go. Who would allow to lose his library so easily?

Kindles are going to stay for a long long time. Maybe forever, like the wheel!

Now is the time to invest in a kindle. It's for you, your spouse, and for your kids. Plan for it now. Think of all the trees we can save by owning a kindle.

Amazon Kindle: The Best e-Reader

amazon kindle
Among all e-readers, amazon Kindle is the most popular.

Amazon has the best marketing strategy, but that's not the only reason why kindles are so popular. The technology used in this unique e-reader makes it suitable for outdoor reading.

If you ever tried to read your mobile phone in sunlight, then you know what it's to read an LCD display in bright light. It becomes a flat dark screen, at the best, illegible. But the Ink-display technology of Amazon Kindle makes it look like a real life book. You can read a kindle outdoors with ease, whether on your own lawn or in a distant holiday location.

But, the main reason for the popularity of a Kindle comes from a different reason altogether.

Your device is your library. If you own a kindle all your kindle books are at your disposal. You can choose which one to read now. If you go on a holiday, you can carry a book or two at the most. You can never carry your library. If you want to read an old book or want to refer one, you can never do so. With a Kindle device, that's a breeze.

Every device is connected to your amazon account with Wi-Fi connection. Once you buy a book, it's connected to your device. If you want to download it for offline reading you can do that too.

Otherwise, it remains in the cloud. The benefit for this is that you save a lot of memory.

In real life, if your library is burnt or destroyed, it's gone forever, but your library is safe in a kindle. Even if your kindle is stolen or destroyed, your library remains your forever. The books you buy, remain yours at your disposal for eternity.

The inbuilt dictionary is a great feature for any reading device. The kindle comes with this feature. Touch any word any the dictionary comes to life immediately. The great thing about this is the ease of referring word for its meaning or usage.

The synchronization of all your kindle devices is another great feature. With cloud computing technology, you can read a book from anywhere and from any device.

Let me give you an example.

Mr. X uses 4 reading devices. A desktop at home, a laptop at the office, an iPad in his car and a Kindle in the bedroom. He has purchased a new  kindle e-book from amazon and he wants to finish reading it as quickly as possible. Well, now he started reading it on his kindle. He has completed reading page 15 and prepared for office. While he is driven to office by his chauffeur, he can resume reading from page 16 if he has installed the FREE kindle app on his iPad. All he has to do it connect to his kindle account and sync it. Now, he reaches his office. During the lunch-break, he can read the same book on his laptop if he has the same kindle App installed in it. He can do the same thing sitting at his desktop after installing the App.

This may not seem much of a feature  if you have plenty of time at your disposal, but ask somebody who counts each second, and he can tell you what a great feature it can be.

The best thing for Indian users is they can buy one easily. Procuring a Kindle was a dream before 3-4 years. After amazon.com opened its India branch amazon.in kindles were made available to Indian readers.

A kindle can be a great gift to your kid. It will inculcate the habit of reading in him / her. It can inspire him to read regularly  and even when he is far from indoors.
